Memorial Story

James Louis Brown of Bremen passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in a local hospital. He was born in Columbus on February 13, 1933, son of the late Henry Pierce Brown and Annie Maude Fowler Brown. Mr. Brown graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Post-graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army Paratroopers, where he served on the Iron Curtain during the Cold War. While stationed in Alaska, he survived the great Alaskan earthquake of 1964. Mr. Brown retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a songwriter and poet. Three times he was voted Songwriter of the Year in Atlanta and at the age of 80, he published “Short Reflections”, a book of poetry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin Pierce Brown, James Samuel Brown, Wilson Randolph Brown; a sister, Ruby Mae Brown Monsour and a half-sister, Donia Brown Evans. Survivors include his wife of twenty four years, Beth Jordan Brown of Bremen; a son and daughter-in-law, James Louis Brown, Jr and Wanda Brown of Charleston, SC; a daughter, Louisa Anne Brown of Dallas; two stepchildren, Wylly Thomas Jordan,III, Esq. and wife Shamay Lee Jordan of Stone Mountain, Dr. Amy Jordan Eubanks and husband Dr. Steven Allen Eubanks, Jr. of Bremen; a grandson, James Louis Brown, III, of Charleston, SC; three step-grandsons, two step-granddaughters; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Brown of Decatur, Lorraine Brown of Porterdale and a number of nieces and nephews.
